Blood Analysis plc is a company dedicated to providing new solutions for the detection of bacteria and viruses in blood products (initially in platelets and red blood cells) but also for other body fluids.The first machine to be launched is Bac-Detect, developed from patented technology by British scientists to count bacteria in platelets in less than 60 minutes.
Bac-Detect utilises sophisticated microelectronic and microfluidic technologies combined with cheap disposable plastic cassettes to detect the presence of bacteria--- alive or dead .It is a system that does not involve culture of bacteria and therefore lends itself to testing of platelets at all stages of the collection and storage chain. It has been designed to make operation very rapid and simple and its’ software allows integration with blood industry barcoding and data management systems. Future development - Viral screening - Bacterial screening of eg urine and sputum - Rapid screening of hospitalised patients - The detection and enrichment of other mammalian cells and molecules such as stem cells and DNA |
